The 23-year-old re-joined Man City from Burnley expecting to be their number one, only for the club to then sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG later in the window.
Trafford has since played zero Premier League minutes for Pep Guardiola’s side but is expected to feature in their League Cup clash with Swansea on Wednesday (October 29).
Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola acknowledged Trafford’s situation but still backed him to become England’s number one.
"The keeper is a special situation because the keeper plays, normally one, and the second one doesn't. All I can say is we are delighted with his behaviour in training," he said.
"One of the reasons why we want to go through in this competition is because they all have to be ready in case we need in the Premier League and the Champions League."
