Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has sent a message to Ethan Nwaneri who has joined Marseille on loan.

Nwaneri made an instant impact following his arrival in Marseille, scoring a superb goal on his debut against RC Lens just 24 hours after signing for the French giants.

The Arsenal academy graduate needs to take full advantage of his loan spell away from the club if he is to leave his mark on the first team under manager Mikel Arteta, something Odegaard knows all about.

Odegaard experienced several loan spells during his own development at Real Madrid, pushed himself to impress away from the club and eventually broke into the first team.

He spoke on Nwaneri this week, wishing him well and explaining that a loan away is the best thing for him at just 18 years old.

"I went on loan a few times when I was a young player and so I spoke with Ethan before he left about it," the playmaker revealed. "We spoke about what he was feeling about his situation and the opportunity, and I understand it - I've been there too. Obviously you always want to play more, so this will be a good move for him."

"We spoke about what he was feeling about his situation and the opportunity, and I understand it - I’ve been there too. Obviously you always want to play more, so this will be a good move for him. I'm sure he's going to do well there and hopefully get a lot of opportunities to show his qualities and his talent."

"At that stage of your career, you need to play games to grow even more and it's a chance for him to take more responsibility and to grow as a player, and as a person."

Odegaard also stated that the loan "should be good for everyone” and that Nwaneri will “be absolutely fine and come back here stronger” from his loan away which allows him to show his talent on the pitch away from the bench.
