Two youngsters are on their shortlist, with Toulouse defender Dayann Methalie being watched. The 19 year-old was a January target, though an injury saw Newcastle pull back.
Methalie can play across the back four, though is a natural left-back.
Also on Newcastle's radar is Joaquin Seys of Club Brugge.
The 20 year-old left-back is being scouted by Newcastle as they seek cover for Lewis Hall next season.
