Newcastle looked set to sign the highly regarded goalkeeper form Burnley this summer before boyhood club Man City joined the race.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Trafford will re-join Pep Guardiola’s side for a record fee paid for a British goalkeeper, surpassing Jordan Pickford’s £30 million price tag when he left Sunderland for Everton.
It’s understood that Newcastle were also willing to break the record but failed to reach personal terms, giving City a chance to get the edge.
Newcastle have had a nightmare transfer window so far, missing out on the likes of Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, and now Trafford, among others.
