Liverpool’s opening offer for Isak worth £110M plus add-ons was immediately rejected by Newcastle despite the Swedish striker accepting personal terms with the Premier League champions who are still on the lookout for a striker this summer.
The two teams face off tonight in what will be a fiery atmosphere at St James' Park with many claiming that there will be a significant increase in fouls between players who are frustrated by the relationship between the two clubs.
Liverpool have not lodged a bid for Isak since seeing an opening offer but Standard Sport report that The Reds are due to make a bid within the coming days in an attempt to secure the services of the 25-year-old once Monday night’s clash is over.
Some believe an injury to Mo Salah or Hugo Ekitike would be ruinous for the champions, meaning that signing Isak or a striker of similar quality is essential for keeping up with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea this season in what is an intense title race.
As the transfer window enters its final week, Newcastle remain adamant that they must replace Isak before selling him but continue to fail to land their targets such as Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and now Yoane Wissa whose future looks to be with Brentford therefore keeping Isak at Newcastle.
