The 28-year-old was the Premier League’s highest non-penalty goalscorer last season, finding the net 19 times in 35 games. He has been one of the attacking targets on Tottenham’s radar since the start of the summer and at one point it looked like he was ready to sign for the club before talks died down.
Wissa's Brentford contract expires in June 2026, though they have an option to extend by 12 months that likely won’t happen as transfer interest continues, suggesting that a move away from the Bees is imminent.
Now, according to transfer guru David Ornstein, Newcastle are eyeing a move for the DR Congo international who is open to departing the club as discussions continue.
“Newcastle exploring move to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford after cooling Hugo Ekitike interest. No #NUFC / #BrentfordFC contact yet but expected soon + personal terms also need to be agreed. Availability & price may depend on Mbeumo case.”
Bryan Mbeumo’s future seems to be a major factor in Wissa’s shaky future. The winger is also linked with Spurs but it is Manchester United who are close to signing the 25 year old in what has been a long running transfer saga. What’s certain is that if Mbeumo stays Wissa will likely leave but if Mbeumo leaves, clubs may find it hard to negotiate with Brentford for Wissa who would become a lot more valuable ahead of the new season.
