Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has recalled coming close to joining Arsenal when a young player.

The 39-year-old revealed this on the show, 'At Broski'.

He recalled: "After the U19s, FC Koln were very interested in me – and also Arsenal FC. At that time, Arsène Wenger was still a coach who spoke many languages.

"But I didn't want to go abroad because I knew it would be difficult as a youth goalkeeper.“

Neuer decided to stay at FC Schalke, where he made his breakthrough in senior football in the 2006/07 season. In 2011, Neuer moved to FC Bayern. The 2014 world champion is still under contract there today.
