McTominay was with United when Carrick was first appointed coach by former United manager Jose Mourinho.
At today's Champions League preview for their clash with Chelsea, McTominay said: "It doesn't surprise me, I wish him all the best.
"The first few games have been good, let's hope they continue like this."
McTominay also commented on new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior.
He said, "Rosenior? He has a lot of ideas, but let's focus on what we have to do. However, I think it will be a great challenge, a good match.
"We're doing everything we can to have the best recovery possible. We're professionals, we work for this, and we hope to play a great match in a great atmosphere."
