Everton boss David Moyes has revealed that the club have had their appeal for Idrissa Gana Gueye's red card rejected.

Keane and Gueye were kept apart at half-time, with tensions still high following a slap in the first half which led to the midfielder being shown a straight red card.

Jordan Pickford and Iliman Ndiaye acted as peacekeepers, separating the pair who clashed in what was one of the most shocking moments of the weekend.

Moyes stated after the game that he "couldn't understand" why the 36-year-old was sent off and admitted he was "disappointed" in his midfielder.

Now, speaking in his latest press conference, the Scotsman has revealed that the club have had their appeal over the decision rejected.

"We have appealed, and our appeal was turned down. We haven't been given any reason why it was turned down, but we did appeal it – immediately."

"It was over immediately. It was done, that was it. We moved on quite quickly, and it was all sorted within the dressing room.

"We want passion. We don't always want it in the style it showed up on Monday night but we certainly want that passion and commitment from all the players."

Reports claim that the midfielder addressed the whole room and apologised for his error, with a direct word for Keane which solved the matter. However, he does not avoid punishment and Everton go into the clash against Newcastle United a man down.
