Mount was speaking before last night's win against Newcastle, when a slight strain forced him off at halftime. However, Mount did have a hand in Patrick Dorgu's winner on the night.
Mount told The Times: "I think I'm close to really getting back to that level (the best). I believe that now, with all the experience I have and what I've been through, my level can be higher than before.
"It's been difficult to even get close to that level in the last two years. But now I've had a really good preseason and played a lot of games . A lot of minutes in my legs. I feel like I'm getting closer to getting back to my best."
He also said: "I don't think I experienced many negative moments as a youngster. I was very fortunate to play in very strong teams, where we won often . Then, as you grow up, you understand that there will definitely be ups and downs.
"And the lows I experienced were losing big matches or losing a final. It's something you have to learn to accept and overcome."
