Casemiro, 34, announced that he will be leaving Old Trafford once his contract expires at the end of the season, four years after joining.
The Brazilian has had a fantastic season, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in his 35 games, his most prolific campaign for the club.
Speaking ahead of Man United’s game against Brighton on the last day of the season, Carrick confirmed that Casemiro won’t feature.
“Case, I kind of decided last week would be his last game. That went well as we could have hoped,” Carrick said. “He’s been fantastic. I’ve said a lot about Case, it was decided it could be a good time for him to finish.
“This club is about bringing young players through, getting the balance right going into games like this, it’s depending on how the game goes to make the most of that. We’ve got some really good young players to take the next step.”
The midfielder was able to say farewell to the fans after their last home game of the season on Sunday (May 17), a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
It’s been widely reported that Casemiro will be heading to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
