Earlier this week, Messi caught his fans off guard with a social media post on Monday morning showing him on the turf at Camp Nou in a moment that reports claim the club didn’t even know about until it happened.
The new stadium will be special
Now at Inter Miami, the Argentina star has been followed by former Barcelona teammates in Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. However, he has now revealed that he longs to return to the club and the city itself, where he still own property.
“I really want to go back, that we miss Barcelona a lot, that the children continuously, and my wife, we talk about things about Barcelona, the idea of living there again”.
“We have our house, everything, so that's what we want”, told diariosport.
“I really want to go back to Barça stadium when it's finished because since I left for Paris I didn't go back to Camp Nou either, and then they went to Montjuïc.
“It’s going to be special, I’m sure.”
Messi misses Barcelona greatly
When asked if he still follows the club from across the pond, Messi confirmed that he misses playing for the La Liga giants and thinks about the club constantly.
“Do I follow Barcelona? Yes, yes, obviously, we all talk about the situations that happen in the club and the results and the game.
“I really miss all those moments at Barça. Maybe I enjoy it more now than at the time when things happened”.
“At that time, it was playing game after game and thinking about the next game without being able to enjoy what we were doing.
“The affection of Barça fans is spectacular. All the things that come to me from Barcelona, from the people, from a stage like the one we have lived, always grabs me a little nostalgia. And a lot of excitement”
The World Cup winner has been tipped to secure a loan switch away from Inter Miami whilst the MLS is on its winter break, but he is unlikely to return to Barcelona anytime soon as he enters the twilight of his illustrious career. Messi penned fresh terms with Inter Miami just last month, a deal that lasts until 2028.
