Former Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Mendes has spoken on the future of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

Silva is out of contract in the summer, and assistant manager Pep Lijnders recently implied that the Portugal international would be leaving as a free agent at the end of the season.

Manager Pep Guardiola admitted he would "love" for  Silva to "finish his career" at City in what seems like an unlikely scenario for the playmaker who is linked with several sides abroad.

Speaking to Thunderpick, Mendes suggested that Silva make his way to La Liga giants Barcelona who he thinks would suit the 31 year old.

“There are some talks here that Benfica would love Bernardo Silva to come back. I have no idea if that would be the case or not. But I think the way he plays, he should go to Barcelona.

“I think Barcelona is the team that would fit perfectly. So let's see. For all the teams that are out there, he will have a choice. He earned the right to choose the team he wants to play.

“I think he earned that, for the fantastic player he's been. I think Barcelona will suit him perfectly.

“Bernardo at Wrexham? I think it’s a matter of time before they make a really big signing, I could see it happening this summer. The fans and owners are behind the club and it’s easy to see the passion there.

“I can’t see Bernardo going there, but he’d of course be a huge star for them if he did.”

Silva broke the record for the most Premier League appearances by a Portuguese player, making his 297th at the weekend against Chelsea. Even if City lift the title, he is likely to leave once the campaign comes to a close as he considers his future.
