Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is reportedly open to a move away as clubs approach him this month.

Abraham scored 26 times in 40 appearances to help Villa win promotion to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season while on loan from Chelsea.

He has since joined Turkish giants Besiktas where he has scored 7 goals in 18 appearances whilst on loan from Roma, who are open to selling the striker back to Villa if a deal can be reached.

However, as reported by David Ornstein, negotiations have become tense and Villa are now looking towards Mateta as an alternative.

“EXCL: Aston Villa express interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta + Crystal Palace evaluating move for Evan Guessand.

“#AVFC studying 28yo as striker option amid complex negotiations with Besiktas over Tammy Abraham. #CPFC wanted 24yo last summer.”

Last week, Juventus enquired about a move for Mateta but Palace were asking for around £40M which shut down talks as the Italian side were not willing to splash such an amount of cash.

The Frenchman turns 29 at the end of the season and sees his contract expire next year, meaning Palace may have to cash in on the striker or risk losing him at the end of his deal.

Mateta has started all 23 of Palace’s Premier League games this season, scoring eight goals and the Eagles are unlikely to let him leave to a Premier League rival before the season is up.
