Manchester United have won't appeal their defeat in the Carabao Cup after losing to Grimsby Town in a penalty shootout, despite the League Two side fielding an ineligible player.

League Two Grimsby were surprise winners when Man United made the trip to Blundell Park on August 27th for their Carabao Cup second round meeting.

The two sides took 13 penalties each during their dramatic shootout with new signing Bryan Mbeumo missing the final spot kick of the night.

Grimsby have since been found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Clark Oduor, the 26-year-old midfielder loaned from Bradford.

Odour came off the bench to make his Grimsby debut during the game and even stepped up to take a penalty, which he ultimately missed.

The EFL opted against the harshest of penalties. Instead, they fined Grimsby £20,000, half of which has been suspended until the end of the season.

According to The Sun, it may have been a reason for Man Untied to push to be reinstated to the tournament, but they have opted against doing so.
