United are expected to welcome a new midfielder in 2026 and have been linked with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher and Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson.
Amorim was handed fresh attacking upgrades during the summer months as Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko joined the squad. However, the next focus is the middle of the park.
This comes as the futures of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are in doubt, whilst manager Ruben Amorim is said to be unhappy with United’s lack of control in midfield over the last two seasons.
However, despite reports suggesting that United will make a move for one of their targets as soon as the January transfer window opens. ESPN report that this is not the case.
The report suggests that the Red Devils will wait until next summer to pursue their interest in Brighton's Baleba and Palace's Wharton, who are said to be Amorim’s top targets.
Brighton are said to be demanding over £100M for Baleba whilst Wharton’s price tag may be very similar. If Amorim is serious about mounting a title charge over the next few seasons, players like Wharton and Baleba must be signed to make it happen.
