Manchester United are not close to sacking manager Ruben Amorim despite his dire start to the season.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News and the Daily Mail, Amorim retains the support of the club's hierarchy as the United continue to pull of disappointing performances despite mass summer spending.

Sunday's 3-0 derby defeat to rivals Manchester City has had zero effect on the United board’s opinion on Amorim which is said to be optimistic even if the club have now slumped to their worst opening to a season in 33 years despite spending more than £200M on new signings.

United were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town, have collected 4 points from their first 4 games and do not look like a side who have had mass changes over the past few months.

Having overseen the majority of their worst-ever Premier League season after initially succeeding former manager Erik ten Hag in November, many fans are already turning on Amorim who was said to be the next big change at the club.

Amorim has earned just 31 points after 31 Premier League games in charge, with 16 defeats along the way. There are no quick fixes at United and sacking Amorim is unlikely to fix much at the club but as poor performances persist it is hard to defend the Portuguese tactician who is yet to get his United side moving.
