The Sun says United rejected approaches for Maguire over the summer on the insistence of manager Ruben Amorim.
It was also Amorim who insisted United trigger Maguire's 12 month option in January this year.
The 32 year-old will now be offered a new deal by United, though on reduced terms from his current £190,000-a-week agreement.
