Manchester United legend Michael Carrick has responded to links to the vacant Wolves job.

Wolves axed Vitor Pereira on Sunday after a dismal start to the season which sees the side dead bottom of the Premier League table. It has been a disastrous season for the club and now they must find a new head coach to try and lift the side up.

Gary O’Neil, Rob Edwards and former United star Carrick have been linked with the role since the weekend. Now, Carrick has responded, as he spoke on Match of the Day about a return to the touchline.

"I’m enjoying some time out at the moment. I think I’m probably watching as much football now as I’ve ever watched really, with a free eye and kind of nothing on it.

"Still learning, still trying to improve, but I’m enjoying doing things like this (punditry). It’s a change, spending time with the family. I’ll see what’s next."

Carrick took up the role of a UEFA technical observer after parting ways with Middlesbrough in the summer, and has enjoyed his time away from management. The ex-Manchester United coach took the Championship side from the relegation zone to the play-offs during his debut season in charge and is certainly a major candidate to take the role.

Youth-team coaches James Collins, who leads the Under-21 team, and Under-18 boss Richard Walker will take training while the club opens talks with a number of replacements ahead of their tie with Chelsea this weekend.
