Grimsby Town fielded an ineligible player in their shock Carabao Cup win over Manchester United which has led to fans calling for a replay.

Grimsby Town have been fined £20,000 for fielding an ineligible player in their famous Carabao Cup win against The Red Devils in what was one of their most famous wins in the club’s history.

Midfielder Clarke Oduor was registered by the club one minute after the EFL's registration deadline in what has been a controversial revelation, sparking debate online. The club released a statement earlier today stating that they accept the fine and that the “mistake was not deliberate”.

Oduor came on in the 73rd minute in place of George McEachran with the League Two side leading 2-0. He was then the only Grimsby player to miss their penalty in the shoot out which ended in The Mariners favour.

Now, Daily Mail Sport reports that United have chosen not to escalate the matter further amid calls from supporters for the match to be replayed, or for Grimsby Town to be kicked out of the competition, which would be harsh on the fourth tier side.

Grimsby won 12-11 on penalties and n the three previous occasions ineligible players have been fielded in the competition, the clubs making the error have also been fined, but never kicked out of the competition or forced to replay the game.
