United manager Michael Carrick confirmed a switch in transfer policy last week with a revived emphasis on targeting wingers after the departure of his predecessor Ruben Amorim and his back three system.
Tavernier, rated at £40m by Bournemouth is now on United's rader, along with Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) and Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig).
Tavernier has also attracted interest from elsewhere in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest admirers.
The attacker's contract at Dean Court runs to 2029.
