United have been heavily linked with the likes of Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Carlos Baleba, but they would all be very costly.
According to Sky Sports, Michael Carrick’s side are looking to sign two midfielders this summer and have stepped up their interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson and West Ham's Mateus Fernandes.
That doesn’t mean they will give up their pursuits of other targets, however, but the increased likelihood Anderson ends up at Man City has seen them look to alternatives.
