Tottenham looked poised to sign Gibbs-White, after triggering the £60m release clause in the England international's contract. However, the midfielder has now opted to extend his stay at the City Ground, which leaves them as well as Everton in search of a midfielder who can help lead in the middle of the pitch.
As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City have now rejected an offer from Forest for 22-year-old McAtee who made just 15 Premier League appearances last season.
“Manchester City have rejected £25M official bid from Nottingham Forest for James McAtee.”
Manager Pep Guardiola has signed the likes of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders this summer whilst Rodri has returned from injury which will not allow McAtee the game time necessary to continue his development at the club.
The England U21 international performed well for the Three Lions at the recent European Championships, picking up an impressive one goal and two assists throughout the tournament. Forest clearly know that he will be open to a move elsewhere, but after their first rejection the likes of Spurs and Everton could make bids for the playmaker in the coming days.
