Aston Villa striker Donyell Malen is set to join Roma on loan as he seeks to play more regularly.

After a slow January transfer window so far, Villa, who sit 3rd in the Premier League table, have now sprung into life as they try to offload striker Malen who is keen on forging a path away from the club.

Roma are growing increasingly frustrated with Giacomo Raspadori as the forward continues to delay a decision on his future and the Serie A side are now launching a move for Malen who is keen on making the switch.

This comes from journalist Ben Jacobs, who suggests that the 26-year-old wants more minutes on the pitch, something Villa cannot hand him anytime soon.

“Roma have reached an agreement in principle for Donyell Malen. Loan with a conditional obligation of £25m. Atletico Madrid also enquired.

“Malen wants the move to play more regularly as a lead striker.

“Villa in the market for a new forward. Tammy Abraham still on their radar.”

Having joined from Borussia Dortmund for €25M last year, Villa would make their money back on the striker, with the funds reinvested into the side during the summer window.

Reports from Italy suggest the two clubs are moving quick in negotiations and want the deal to happen as soon as possible. No obstacles are said to be in the way of the move that could be confirmed later this week.
