Amorim was sacked as United manager after 14 months in charge and with the club sat sixth in the Premier League table.
Former captain Maguire has become the first to respond to the announcement as he sent a kind message to Amorim who has struggled since he arrived at the club in November 2024.
“Thank you for everything boss,” Maguire wrote on his Instagram Story, hours after Amorim’s exit. “I wish you all the best in the future.”
Since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, Amorim was the 10th manager to be appointed. He led the side to their worst ever Premier League season and a Europa League final, which he lost against Tottenham.
Ex-Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, Eddie Howe, Andoni Iraola, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, Marco Silva, Mauricio Pochettino, Xavi and Kieran McKenna have all been linked with the role after the news was announced.
The Red Devils have eight wins, seven draws and five losses to show for their efforts this season and are joint on points with Chelsea, who sacked manager Enzo Maresca last week.
Former long-serving United midfielder Darren Fletcher will take charge of the first team for Wednesday’s trip to face struggling Burnley whilst the club search for a new head coach.
United also face Arsenal and Manchester City later this month in what are tough clashes for Fletcher, who has his work cut out for him.
