Liverpool are prepared to open talks with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo if Luis Diaz does leave this summer.

Arsenal were said to be the frontrunners for the Brazilian’s signature this summer but now that Liverpool are prepared to enter the race for the Madrid star it looks unlikely that the Gunners will snap him up, especially after securing Noni Madueke earlier this month.

Now, with rumours circulating around both Diaz and Rodrygo, journalist Florian Plettenburg has confirmed that the Reds will try to make the 24 year old their top priority if an offer convines them to sell the Colombian international.

“Liverpool are closely monitoring the situation of #Rodrygo as he is one of the candidates for #LFC in case Luis Díaz leaves. Liverpool informed about conditions and current status.

Real Madrid would be open to selling him. Rodrygo is aware of this, and the market is being explored. However, the package would be very expensive. The 24 y/o is reportedly already earning up to €10 million net per year.”

Manager Arne Slot is waiting for the arrival of striker Hugo Ekitiké from Frankfurt who was seen boarding a plane to Liverpool on Tuesday morning. The additions of Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez alongside Rodrygo would be more than enough to challenge on all fronts next season.

Darwin Nunez is also in line to leave Anfield with sides in Italy and Saudi Arabia interested and if he and Diaz do depart then it would be an all new Liverpool attack for next season that will be an interesting watch as Slot attempts to defend the title.
