Liverpool's first team set-piece coach Aaron Briggs has departed after 18 months at the club.

Liverpool have conceded 12 goals from set-pieces this season, the joint-most in the Premier League alongside Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, in what is a shocking statistic for the champions.

Due to this, the Reds have been ruthless this week and have announced the departure of Briggs, who has left the club as the side look to markedly improve their dismal record in that department.

In a statement, Liverpool said:

“Liverpool FC can confirm Aaron Briggs has departed his role as set-piece coach of the men’s first team.

“Having joined the club in July 2024 – initially in the role of individual development coach – Briggs contributed to our Premier League title success last season as a member of Arne Slot’s backroom staff.

“He leaves with the appreciation and best wishes of everyone at the club.”

Manager Arne Slot and his side conceded their 12th goal from a set-pieces in Saturday's 2-1 win over Wolves, who are by far the worst team in the league.

Slot’s have also scored just three set pieces in the top flight this term, and Slot has regularly complained about Liverpool’s "negative set piece balance” which has affected their results.
