After racking up eight goals and three assists across 16 games, with many top clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are said to be ready to trigger Semenyo’s £65M release clause.
This comes as Mohamed Salah is away with Egypt at AFCON whilst Alexander Isak has picked up what could be a season ending injury against Tottenham at the weekend.
According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Liverpool would be the idea destination for Semenyo who could slide into manager Arne Slot’s attack.
"My take on it is that if Liverpool come in for him, he'll go to Liverpool. And the reason I say that is because I think Liverpool is too good of a move for him to turn down.
"Liverpool have been big admirers of him and they've looked at signing him before. Also, they have a track record for signing players in January, and we know how they operate in the transfer market.
"I think they were expecting to have a quiet January as they did a lot of business in the summer, but there is money to spend. Sometimes they move quickly to get a summer target in early if they think he's going to go somewhere else.
"I think over the next few days, especially in light of Isak's injury, Liverpool will be having discussions at the very highest level to work out whether they do make this late move for Semenyo."
Slot's only senior options up front are Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa. As Liverpool push into the top four, they will need much more firepower to maintain their form and possibly forge a title race of their own in the new year.
