Lewis-Skelly, 19, has fallen behind Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori in the left-back pecking order this season, so ending his hopes of making England's World Cup squad.
The Sun says the youngster has since spoken with Arteta about his situation. The feedback from his manager was Lewis-Skelly must stay patient and his chances will eventually come.
Arteta said last week: “Every season is different. He’s had very good moments in the season, he’s had other moments when he hasn’t played that much.
“Obviously, a few days ago in the FA Cup (vs Mansfield) he was suspended and he could not play so there are various reasons.
“Sometimes, as well, the good form of your team-mates is another factor that contributes to that, but he’s doing well.”
