Manchester City midfielder Rico Lewis was pleased for his young teammates after their Carabao Cup win at Huddersfield.

City won 2-0 thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Savinho. Divine Mukasa set up Foden for his opener, with brothers Jaden and Reigan Heskey making their debuts.

“It’s so nice and it’s amazing to see that the Academy is doing so well still, producing amazing players as you’ve seen today,” Lewis said.

“The lads that came on, congratulations to them on making their debut, but it’s amazing from the outside looking in to see all of the youth coming through and doing well.”

“I think the first team philosophy and tactics are instilled from the Academy when you’re probably 10/11 years old.

“You’re trying to work on the things that are going to get you to this point, you don’t just train and work on random things for no reason and you can see that today, it looks so fluid, it looks so easy and everyone knows where everyone is and I think that’s down to the Academy coaching and the importance we have in each training session.”
