Liverpool have two wins from two at the start of the new season but the club have also conceded 4 goals during those first few games which has left many fans worried for the rest of the season. French international Konate has been targeted more than most over the past few weeks as his mistakes and poor defending has led to the majority of the goals.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Lawrinson has suggested that captain Virgil van Dijk needs a new partner to help him in a Liverpool, defence that he looked very shaky so far this campaign.
"Yeah I was concerned (about the defence), but I think everybody is at the moment.
"Van Dijk needs another partner doesn’t he? Because the French boy (Konate) is all over the place, he’s making all sorts of mistakes. But don’t forget they’ve got different players playing at the back right now so it’s not particularly good but it will get better – it’s the way Liverpool are.
"And there is still a chance that if they need to sign somebody then the transfer market is still open."
Konate entered the summer with uncertainty over his long-term future at Liverpool as the likes of Real Madrid showed interest in snapping him up. However, after he struggled so much against Bournemouth and Newcastle over the past two weeks it is unlikely a bid will come in anytime soon.
The Frenchman is usually ever-reliable next to Virgil van Dijk but this season he has been poor so far. Manager Arne Slot is looking at signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi according to reports and he may make a move sooner rather than later as Konate continues to disappoint.
