Iraola now officially a free agent after his Bournemouth exit as he guided the club to Europe and an impressive unbeaten run in the closing stages of the campaign.
The 43-year-old is set to be one of the most in-demand head coaches heading into the new season, with the Spaniard being linked to multiple clubs including Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen.
However, as pressure mounts on Slot after a trophyless campaign despite spending over £400M in the summer, Iraola is being touted as his swift replacement.
Sky Sports reported today that Iraola is interested in the Liverpool job which will only speed up talks amongst the board on Merseyside as they discuss Slot’s questionable future.
“We have been reporting that he is in talks with AC Milan, however we have been told that those talks are not really progressing. He seems no more likely to join Crystal Palace either.
“Clubs that Andoni Iraola is interested in joining are Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool – although there is no vacancy at Liverpool because Arne Slot is staying.”
Iraola left Bournemouth by going on an 18-match unbeaten run, which ultimately saw them finish sixth as he led the club to Europe for the first time in their history.
Fans are eager to see the Spaniard step into the role before the summer window, allowing him to reshape the club into a title challenging side once more. This comes particularly after the side missed out on Xabi Alonso who has joined rivals Chelsea.
