Inter Milan have agreed a deal for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji who will depart on loan.

Reports had previously claimed that Spurs were currently ahead in the race for the Swiss international whilst other stated that West ham United were preparing to launch an effort to bring in the defender who has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Pep Guardiola.

Akanji had a failed move to Galatasaray but now, according to Fabrizio Romano, he is set to prove himself in the Serie A with title challengers Inter Milan

“€2m loan fee, €15m buy option clause to become mandatory only under difficult conditions. 

“Akanji set for medical now, as he agreed to the move.” 

Romano also provided more information on the deal which includes some interesting clauses which Inter may have to pay if Akanji proves to be a useful signing for manager Cristian Chivu.

"€2m loan fee and part of salary coverage. €15m buy option clause.

"Buy clause becomes mandatory if Akanji plays at least 50% of games and if Inter win the Serie A this season."

In 26 Premier League appearances last season, Akanji recorded 5 clean sheets. The 30-year-old also managed 30 clean sheets in 119 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund before joining City in 2022. Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that AC Milan’s ‘number one target’ is Akanji and now it looks like the Swiss international will depart the side as the latest departure for Guardiola
