The 55-year-old will go down as arguably the most influential manager in Premier League history following his Man City exit.
Guardiola had a remarkable ten years at the club, winning 20 trophies and establishing Man City as a major footballing force.
Fromer assistant and Chelsea manager Maresca, 46, is widely expected to be the man who will take over, although there hasn’t been any official announcement.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Guardiola revealed the advice he will offer Maresca as the Italian prepares for a huge new job.
"When the club tell me who it is, of course I will call him," said Guardiola.
"I will tell him, 'Be yourself and the club will support you unconditionally'. That is the biggest compliment, or the biggest luck that all the managers who have been here have had.
“You will be protected in the bad moments more than any other club. Be yourself, be free, go with your ideas. Work a lot and everything will be fine."
