Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has spoken to the media as he prepares to face Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Hurzeler has overseen just one victory from the Seagulls' opening five top-flight games in 2025-26 and this weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge will be tricky to turn that form around.

Team news

He first gave some team news which included some positive updates on several first team stars who are recovering behind the scenes.

"There's some positive news, Mats Wieffer is back and Maxim De Cruyer will be back. Jack (Hinshelwood) is still out. Overall, some more options regarding our full-backs, so good news.

"He (Brajan Gruda who was seen limping after playing Spurs) recovered this week. He had some days off because of this small issues. He had some treatment but it changed yesterday so he will be fine.

"(Yankuba) Minteh he had some days off to recover. He trained yesterday so he will be fine."

Are Brighton missing Pedro?

He was then asked if Albion are missing Joao Pedro who moved to Chelsea this summer and has 2 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League for The Blues so far.

"(He) is a special player" but they are moving on from him as a team. "He is a game-changer for them, we have to defend them as a team and I am sure we are capable of doing that."

The threat of Palmer

Questions remained centered on Chelsea as Hurzeler was asked about Cole Palmer who may be ruled out of the clash and how he feels coming up against one of the best sides in the league.

"If he (Palmer) starts he is a game-changer for them" but speaks again about defending as a unit. It is also about going there and playing our style of play.

"If we have momentum on our side, if we have one or two decisions for us. we could easily be here with more points.

"We can beat anyone in the league but only as a team."

Are Brighton where they should be?

Finally, he revealed if he thinks Brighton are where he thinks they should be after a mixed start to the campaign.

"Hard to answer. If i say we are close, why are we only on five points?"
