Earlier this week, Barca president Joan Laporta alongside sporting director Deco were reported to be hellbent on signing City star Haaland who has been one of the best strikers on the planet for a number of years.
Lewandowski will see his contract expire next summer and with him turning 37 years of age it is likely that he will leave the side as a free agent as the La Liga giants focus on signing another world-class forward.
Haaland managed to bag 22 Premier League goals last season, despite Man City finishing third in the Premier League. Now, speaking in association with Grosvenor Casino, Hamann told GOAL that Barcelona will likely make a bold move for the 25-year-old.
"Obviously they find it hard to register players, so I’m not sure they’d be able to register Haaland. But then again, this is probably a few years away.
"But Lewandowski went there, and I didn’t think he’d score the goals he did. I think the Bundesliga is the closest to the Premier League when it comes to physicality. Once you’re past 30, I reckon you probably find it a bit easier to score goals in Spain than you do in Germany or certainly in England. So that’s certainly something I can see.
"And if it were to be a stopgap, obviously it’s a good stopgap because we know the record of Harry Kane. And with all the financial issues they’ve got, they’ve got three or four years to sort that out if they want to try to get Haaland to Barcelona. So, it’s certainly something I can see, yes."
Haaland has already won two Premier League titles and a Champions League under City boss Pep Guardiola, and could be looking for a move away to La Liga if Barcelona do make a formal bid. However, the fee would be well over £100M and there are questions as to whether Barcelona can handle such a fee with their current finances.
