With just a few hours remaining of the summer transfer window, Guehi had completed his Liverpool medical as he prepares for life on Merseyside. However, although the deal looks to be complete there has been a snag with his replacement who Palace sought to bring in.
As reported by journalist Ben Jacobs, Igor's loan move to Crystal Palace has fallen through and the defender has chosen to join West Ham over The Eagles in what is a shock decision.
“BREAKING: Igor's loan move to Crystal Palace is currently off, as called by @CParkerTurner
“Player has decided to join West Ham. Liverpool waiting to see if it impacts the Marc Guehi deal.”
Max Kilman and Nayef Aguerd have come under fire for their performances under Hammers boss Graham Potter who picked up his first win against Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Igor would slip into West Ham’s shaky defence and ease the pressure on Potter that has been slowly growing.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news that could stop Guehi from joining the Premier League champions who are also set to announce Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak later today.
"BREAKING: Igor to Crystal Palace has collapsed as @CParkerTurner
says, news arrived as soon as Guehi completed his medical in London as Liverpool player.
"#LFC now waiting for outcome on Crystal Palace side."
Palace are also set to confirm the signing of Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot but he may not be enough to replace Guehi who will be watching this situation closely as it could mean his deal with Liverpool is called off, just hours before the window slams shut.
