Gary Lineker was left baffled by VAR as Manchester United were awarded a penalty against Fulham this weekend.

United were held by The Cottagers after Emile Smith Rowe cancelled out Leny Yoro's deflected second-half opener on Sunday afternoon which leaves The Red Devils in the bottom half of the table once again.

One of the most crucial moments on the game however was when Fulham defender Calvin Bassey had been penalised for a foul on Mason Mount before Fernandes missed the target from the spot. However, Lineker wasn't happy with his trip to West London, as he shared his confusion during the VAR decision which many fans agreed with.

"They got a penalty, which my goodness, what a bizarre experience. You know, going to the game, we're watching the game, there's a corner and then the ball's cleared, the balls goes up to the other end of the pitch and Fulham's on the attack.

"Then suddenly the ref stops and you're thinking, 'What's going on here?' Now, I know the experience is probably different at home, but if you're in the ground, Oh my. Then you look at, you see a sign saying VAR penalty check. And I was honestly sitting there and I said 'For which team, who to?'

"I didn't even know whether it was that end or that end, and you had no idea what was going on. I mean, it's such an awful experience for fans."

It is these decisions that need to be clarified with fans who were unsure which team may have been awarded a penalty. Fans at home were told by commentators but the tens of thousands in the stadium were lefts scratching their heads.

United fans will be more frustrated by manager Ruben Amorim however as he now has a league win percentage of 24.1 with just seven victories in his 29 games since November and a dire 28 points.
