Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has explained why his side are facing Wycombe Wanderers in a behind closed doors game this weekend.

The game between Spurs and Wycombe will be played at the Premier League side's training ground at Hotspur Way, with no admittance for spectators. Instead updates will be given on social media as fans watch online rather than at the ground to support their side.

This is unusual for Tottenham but Frank has revealed that it is to give players as many minutes as possible heading into the new season which begins next month.

"We wanted an extra game in our schedule to give as many players as many match minutes as possible, in order to put them in the best position, physically.

"We will play two even, strong teams and they will play between 60 and 75 minutes, maybe more.

"By the end of Saturday, 22 players will have played a lot of match minutes and they will be in a very good place before we go on tour.”

It'll be Wycombe's fifth fixture of pre-season, having previously taken on Brighton, Sutton, Cheltenham and Barnet. The League One sides’ season begins at the start of August which means they are deep into preseason which will only help the Tottenham side who are coming off the back of a much-needed rest.

It has now been confirmed that James Maddison has started training with his teammates after overcoming his knee injury. He and the rest of the squad will be preparing for Saturday as well as their Asian tour where they will take on on Arsenal in Hong Kong in the first North London derby to be played outside of the UK.
