He signs with Serie A side until the end of 2026 and spoke to the club website about the move which he says he is ecstatic about.

“First, I saw the fans at the airport saying “Go, Corinthians! Go, Corinthians!” you know? It has a lot of passion from the fans, which is wonderful to see.

“The CT here is incredible. And the players welcomed me with open arms, the coach, the director, it was great to meet them. My first impressions: very happy, I can’t wait to play.”

The club state that he is already training with the team and that he will take the number 77 at his new home, forgetting his preferred numbers of 14 and 11.

Lingard had been without a club since December following his departure from South Korean side FC Seoul, and he now continues his career outside of the UK despite links back to the Premier League.

Lingard will reunite with former United team-mate Memphis who spoke on his move to the side earlier this season.

"Why I signed is very simple for me... This adventure made my heart happy. The energy I got, the efforts of the club, the reception of the supporters… I haven’t experienced this before.

“Maybe we’re playing at a higher level in Europe, but you can’t deny that the authentic football comes from Brazil. This is the Mecca of football."
