As reported by The Express, the 34-year-old reportedly fell ill while using an exercise bike during Tuesday's training session and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
The former Chelsea playmaker suffered a cardiac incident that left him unconscious for two minutes, prompting fears for his playing career, which could be cut short given the seriousness of the incident.
The midfielder is “clinically well and stable” at the Einstein Hospital Israealita according to São Paulo who released a statement this week as fan concern over his welfare grows.
“Midfielder Oscar remains hospitalized at the Einstein Hospital Israelita, where he was admitted on Tuesday afternoon (11) after presenting an incident with cardiological changes during tests carried out at SuperCT.”
“Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope.
“Oscar remains clinically well and stable, hospitalized in a cardiology unit, and will undergo an electrophysiological study this Friday.”
Vasovagal syncope, known as the common faint, happens when a person overreacts to certain triggers which cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate. This diagnosis is not ideal for a footballer, which has led to fans believing his career may be over.
Oscar made over 200 appearances for Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles before making the move to Shanghai Port and eventually returning to Brazil.
ESPN Brazil report that Oscar is now considering retirement, despite signing for Sao Paulo on a three-year contract last December. On Wednesday, he sent a message to fans and confirmed that he is fine and slowly recovering.
'”Thank you so much for the messages and prayers. Everything will be fine, God willing,” he posted on Instagram.
