On Friday, the Aussie delivered a fiery defence of his work to a "smirking" press corp.

“I don’t need reassurance, mate,” Postecoglou said. “Why would I need reassurance?

“I’m in a no-win situation, right. So you (the media) write about me getting replaced and naming replacements, either it’s pure fabrication and lies that the club is looking to move me on and talking to other prospective candidates for my role, so it’s either outright lies, or, there is some truth in it.

“Either way, what can I do about it? I’m not going to go suing a newspaper or the media and I’m not going to go to the owner, because who knows what the truth is and I don’t care. If people have made up their minds, internally or externally, after five weeks for God’s sake, OK, well, what am I supposed to do about that?

“It depends on the prism you look at that. What I consistently say, and I was mocked and ridiculed for it last year, is if you let the story play out, I’ll tell you how it finishes. But I don’t hold that decision in my hands.”

Postecoglou also stated: “I said last year in my second year I always win things, right? And what’s the key to that? That I’m there in my second year, because it takes a bit of time.

“But the story always ends the same. You leave me here, let me do my job, it’ll end the same, that’s what I’m saying.

“If I don’t and I’m removed, well, what can I do about it? I can’t win in this situation in terms of me trying to tackle this and try to convince people. You either see what you see or you don’t, either way it doesn’t affect me.”
