Nottingham Forest boss Vitor Pereira insists he's counting on Chris Wood for the remainder of this season.

New Zealand international Wood hasn't been seen since October due to a knee injury which required surgery. The striker has now stated he has been cleared to begin training.

Asked if the Kiwi will play again this season, Pereira said: “I hope so. He is recovering. I hope so because he is important for us.”

Igor Jesus has shone in Wood's absence and Pereira continued: “Very different skills.

“In my opinion, Igor played a fantastic game in Istanbul. It was difficult for him (against Liverpool) because he faced two difficult centre-backs.

“He is a different player (to Wood) and has different qualities. But he is a very good player. He will score goals, for sure.”
