The Spain attacker spent the second-half of last term on-loan with Villa from PSG before being sold to Fenerbahce.
Asensio, speaking with Marca, recalled: “I also had happy moments at PSG, playing at a high level, but what I was looking for here (Fenerbahce) was consistency, because that's what takes you to your best. I think I achieved that at Aston Villa last season, where I was also very happy.
“With this challenge at Fenerbahçe, I was looking to play every three days, to maintain a high level... This is what makes me happy: playing football, training every day, playing matches... I enjoy myself most on the pitch.
“2025 has been a very good year for me. Having played in the Premier League and regaining my feel for my natural position is also important.
“Perhaps that's what's been missing in my career: consistency in that number 10 or central midfield role. I think that's where I can reach my full potential. And yes, I can play in several positions, and I'm a team player; I've never said where I'd rather play.”
Asensio also said: "Very good with Unai (Emery, Villa manager). He's an incredible coach, who pays attention to every detail and, personally, is very close to the players.
“We had a spectacular second half of the season, winning almost every Premier League match, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley, and coming very close to qualifying for the Champions League.”
