Leeds United have slammed fans who booed during the break for Ramadam last weekend.

Leeds fans booed as play was paused so that players observing Ramadan including Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Omar Marmoush could break their fast.

Despite messages on the screen allowing for a break in play to allow the players to break their fast, many showed disrespect which manager Daniel Farke says is unacceptable.

"To be honest, if it was really disrespectful in these terms because of the break, then you have to say we all have to learn out of this," he said.

"During the game, it was not my feeling because it was a surprise for everyone that there was this little break."

As reported by the BBC, a generic email reply sent by Leeds' supporter liaison officer read:

"The club is aware of the incident and it was disappointing that some supporters chose to boo during the pause in play to allow players observing Ramadan to break their fast.

"The club is currently looking into why this happened and what can be done moving forwards to prevent incidents of a similar nature happening again in the future."

Guardiola calls for respect

Speaking after the game, City boss Guardiola told Sky Sports: "It's the modern world, right? You know what happened in the world again today, right?

"Respect the religion, respect the diversity. That is the point. It's the rule, we didn't say that. It was the Premier League who said: for the fasting, you can spend one or two minutes in the game to do that, for the players to do it.

"So, yeah it's what it is. Unfortunate."

Stoppages of this nature have become a regular feature in football matches in recent years during Ramadan and are unlikely to change anytime soon.
