Toda, who now works as a pundit for DAZN, told Tottenham's website: "Kota Takai is an Academy product of Kawasaki Frontale and started playing regularly for the first team last season. He is still 20, very young, and last season was actually his second season as a professional. The speed of his growth has been outstanding.

"He’s tall, at 190 centimetres, and will be strong. He is right footed, but he can also use his left foot. He can carry the ball well, dribble well and pass the ball well. He has a big range. He plays as right centre-back but can also play left centre-back. He’s also good in the air. He’s also intelligent, he can read the game well, now he needs the experience of playing at a higher level. He has huge potential, such a promising talent, with a big future.

"I believe he can become a high-level centre-back, and he can learn a lot from players like Cristian Romero and Thomas Frank, who is a fantastic coach. I’ve been at his matches a lot of times. He can teach Mr Takai a lot of things and help him to improve. Mr Takai is very intelligent, he just needs time to adapt and improve."
