Chelsea teenager and Brazilian sensation Estevao grabbed a last minute winner over the champions, sending Stamford Bridge into frenzy. During the pandemonium, Maresca ran down the touchline to celebrate with his players before being sent off.
The Italian said being shown the red card “was worth it” after snatching a vital 3 points which has hurt Liverpool’s chances of defending their league title.
Now, Maresca has been punished further by the FA who said Maresca admitted the charge and accepted the standard penalty of £8K.
Chelsea’s next game is against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon, where he will face Ange Postecoglou, who is desperately searching for his first victory in charge.
Maresca will not be banned from entering Chelsea's dressing room and can communicate to his staff "by means of telephone, a runner or any other electronic device such as a radio or mobile phone" during the match.
Chelsea sit seventh in the table, five points off leaders Arsenal in a season where a title race looks a long way off. A win over Forest will be tough away from home and even tougher without Maresca there to guide his side on the touchline.
Maresca’s dismissal followed a run of three red cards in four matches for Chelsea players and is his second touchline ban as Chelsea manager, serving his first suspension in April 2025 for celebrating Pedro Neto's 93rd-minute winner at Fulham.
