Emery played down the absence of the traditional post-match handshake with Arteta after a disheartening 4-1 defeat which puts a dent in Villa’s title hopes.
The Villa boss departed down the tunnel without meeting his Spanish counterpart, which sparked conversation online about a lack of respect from both parties.
After the game, Emery revealed that he did wait for Arteta, who was busy celebrating with his coaching staff.
“Yes, but it's simple. You can watch. After (finishing) the match, always my routine is quick, shake hands and go with my coaches, with my players, or go to the dressing room.
"And I was waiting, I was waiting. Of course, he was happy, and he was with his coaches and I decided to go inside. But for me, no problem."
"No, that's OK. That's part of the game, not an issue at all."
Further explaining his decision to Sky Sports, Emery said: “Always my routine is go to the opposition coach, shake hands and go inside. If he is not doing the same rule, I can’t wait… it was cold.”
Arteta also played down the significance of the missed handshake. "No, that's OK. That's part of the game, not an issue at all."
