The Brazilian moved to Forest last season after leaving a similar role at Arsenal, but his falling out with Nuno has raised concerns inside the club.
Edu is expected to attend tonight's clash with West Ham, where Nuno is now in charge.
His transfer decisions and failure to strike a relationship with Nuno is being largely blamed for the club's chaotic season so far. Sean Dyche is now the third manager Forest have had this term after Ange Postecoglou lasted just weeks after he succeeded Nuno.
