Forest won their Europa League tie against Porto 2-0 thanks to goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus.
Dyche, with a win on his first night in charge at City Ground, said: “The last couple of days have been pretty hectic, but I’m very pleased with everyone concerned with the club.
“The players have been terrific because we have shared a lot with them on how we can work as a group, and they’ve accepted it.
“We’ve had them in this morning, which isn’t normal for them, but they accepted it and they’ve gone and delivered.
“It was a good performance and a strong performance for many different reasons, so I’m especially pleased for them.
“I would’ve taken an ugly win, but we delivered a terrific performance — which is the one thing I asked the players for. I asked them to give a performance for themselves, for the fans, and for the badge, and I think they’ve done that, which is really pleasing.
“To tick so many boxes in our first game together is just one step; there are lots more to come and a lot of work ahead of us.
“But it’s a really important step for so many reasons — particularly for the fans.
“We’ve had a good start and changed the storyline somewhat, but now we need to keep changing it, of course.”
